I have to say you find a lot of long escalators in Japan... it's like a national obsession... and the one in Queen's Square building is definitely up there.

I'd agree that Yokohama's a brilliant place to visit... and even though we really loved visiting Minato Mirai 21 at the end of a very long and hot/tiring day, I have to say it did feel a little strange that there were so few people there. Not sure if it's because it was a Wednesday, or because there's not the population living around there (and so it evacuates out of business/weekend hours). Would definitely go back there though.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10245689060247741542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6355923046579889657.post-9560243198311380352012-07-20T04:50:23.932+09:302012-07-20T04:50:23.932+09:30LOL. My wife's from Teine and we take the kids back every year as well for a visit. Headed off in a couple of weeks again and putting our eldest into Japanese school. I'm not sure where ...Thanks for your comment... I'm not sure where they go in general - but it's likely to be in the 'Japanese' room (ie a more traditional room with tatami floor). Our home in Sapporo doesn't have a Japanese room however (which is becoming more typical these days), so it's kept in the living room. From what I understand, it's not that important which room it's placed in... Likewise, there's no hard and fast rules in terms of directions, though we understand that it's sometimes placed to face south or eastwards. Also, if you also have a 'kamidana' (or Shinto shrine), it's thought to be bad to have these facing each other.

It's quite likely to depend on the specific Buddhist faith being followed... Sorry I can't be of more help, but that's at least our understanding.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10245689060247741542noreply@blogger.com
